Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the psychodynamics of work among artisanal fishermen through their life stories. The research was framed within the theoretical-analytical framework of Psychodynamics of Work (POW), contextualizing the objective, subjective, and social processes of work at sea. Thirteen interviews were conducted, and the analyses were carried out according to the principles of the Analysis of Nuclei of Meaning (ANS), with the goal of integrating knowledge about the work psychodynamics of the participants throughout their biographical trajectories. Fieldwork took place across nine beaches located in the capital and on the eastern and western coasts of the state of Ceará, in northeastern Brazil. The findings were organized into five empirical themes and discussed in light of POW theoretical categories, portraying both the work of a threatened professional group and their ways of life, deeply rooted in the singularity of coastal traditions and strongly interwoven with cultural elements.
