Abstract

Significant social networks have an impact on children's lives since childhood, and the perspective of perceived, received and provided social support continue to influence them throughout their development. It is therefore important to understand how children's personal social networks are structured and what roles the members of the network play from a child’s perspective. However, using the same methodology resources from research with adults in studies with children is not enough. In view of this, this study aimed to present an adaptation of Carlos E. Sluzki’s Network Map as a data gathering tool for qualitative research with school-age children. Its applicability in different work and research contexts, such as health, education and social assistance, is highlighted from a qualitative perspective, which allows a complex understanding of the relational dynamics within children's socio-cultural realities.
