Children's voices in the development of an educational game about physical activity in childhood: on the paths to health empowerment

The objective was to describe the development process of an educational health game aimed at promoting physical activity in childhood. This methodological study employed a qualitative approach and was conducted in six stages: conceptualization, information gathering, gameplay, setting/design/rules, implementation, and testing. A total of 32 children, aged eight to ten years, from a municipal school in Teresina, Brazil, participated. Engagement with participants occurred through participatory observation, and data were collected in group workshops. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data and identified four domains of physical activity: at school, at home, during leisure time, and within the support network. These categories guided the development of the educational game, which consists of a board and 55 cards. The technology has the potential to promote childhood physical activity and can be applied in various spaces of social interaction, including homes, schools and support networks.
