The relationship between description and interpretation is examined, and the role of description in applied phenomenology research is clarified. It is argued that phenomenological research is based on description. For this purpose, it begins with Husserl, for whom phenomenology is a rigorous descriptive science where language serves as a faithful expression of the intuited essences, subordinating the interpretive role. Subsequently, two contemporary positions that challenge this primacy are analyzed: the phenomenological-hermeneutical, which argues that both projects are inseparable, and the transcendental-hermeneutical method. It is shown that interpretation is only necessary in an auxiliary sense, without the need to assume commitments to a hermeneutical phenomenology. Finally, scientific phenomenological research is presented as a model of applied phenomenology that claims the descriptive orientation as a generator of rigorous knowledge. It is concluded that description is central to a phenomenology that aspires to function as a rigorous methodical framework for the human and social sciences.
