Abstract

This text aims to present Friedrich Daniel Ernst Schleiermacher's universal hermeneutics, understood as a possibility for interpreting all types of texts. We conducted a study in light of several works that address the topic, guided by the question: What is Friedrich Daniel Ernst Schleiermacher's universal hermeneutics? Within the scope of this research, we understand that Schleiermacher's theory of interpretation was developed in two main forms: one grammatical and the other psychological. These forms are linked to the concept of the hermeneutic circle, according to which the meaning of a text only becomes intelligible through the circularities between the parts and the whole. Our hypothesis is that these circularities are not limited to a closed cycle, but rather constitute a spiral, in which each return broadens understanding and generates new meanings. This perspective reveals understanding as a dialogical process. In the educational field, this indicates that the act of teaching and learning is not reduced to the simple transmission of content, but implies the constitution and construction of meanings between subjects.
