Teatro do oprimido: diálogos estéticos e intersecções com a pesquisa acadêmica

Abstract

This exploratory and descriptive study investigates the use of Theatre of the Oppressed, developed by Augusto Boal, as a tool for producing scientific knowledge in research on student retention in higher education. The objective was to understand how its techniques contribute to the participatory construction of academic knowledge. The methodology involved theatrical games and techniques in two sessions, totaling 12 hours of activities. Data were produced through field diaries and narrative transcriptions. The interpretive analysis sought coherence with Boal’s principles and focused on the themes of student retention and mental health. The results indicate that Theatre of the Oppressed fostered an environment of critical reflection, enabling students to decipher, express, and experience processes of empowerment in the face of authoritarianism and everyday dilemmas. Through dialogical interaction, participants explored different perspectives and strategies for dealing with personal, institutional, and social issues.
