O significado da experiência vivida para o ser-mulher na amamentação prolongada

Abstract

The objective of this study was to understand the meaning of the experience lived by women during prolonged breastfeeding. This is a qualitative study, guided by the theoretical-philosophical framework of Maurice Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology and the hermeneutic method proposed by van Manen. From the experiential descriptions, the central meaning emerged: “Prolonged breastfeeding overcomes the barriers or facilities of the process through the experience of love in experiencing it”. The essential themes were “Experiencing pleasant feelings when undergoing prolonged breastfeeding”, “Experiencing obstacles to maintaining prolonged breastfeeding” and “Perception of aspects that favor breastfeeding”. It is considered that assistance to women should be provided from a holistic perspective, encompassing physiological, cultural and emotional aspects in view of their totality as women, based on respect for their decision to continue breastfeeding, as each person projects the world in a unique way.
