Resumo

O artigo discute as pretensões epistemológicas da pesquisa qualitativa e sua pertinência para compreender fenômenos complexos do mundo da vida. Pergunta-se como essa abordagem enfrenta a complexidade sem reducionismos e sem abdicar de rigor. Com base em revisão crítica de Morin, Habermas, Foucault, Latour e Santos, argumenta-se que a pesquisa qualitativa produz explicações aproximativas, abertas e refutáveis, capazes de lidar com contradições, politicidades, contextos e dimensões intersubjetivas. Defende-se humildade epistêmica, explicitação de pressupostos e diálogo com saberes plurais, como antídotos às pretensões do positivismo. O artigo propõe distinguir níveis de dinâmica investigativa (intensas, profundas, intersubjetivas, hermenêuticas, da politicidade e complexas), indicando critérios de qualidade vinculados à coerência teórico-metodológica, à validade argumentativa e à responsabilidade social da interpretação. Conclui-se que a pesquisa qualitativa não é panaceia, mas alternativa crítica que valoriza pluralidade, diálogo, abertura à revisão e a autoridade do argumento fundamentado.
