Abstract

Autoethnography as a methodological option in the anthropological study in situations of vulnerability: an example on a case of hypothyroidism

Abstract: Anthropologists have always been confronted with the inability to participate in the condition of people living in situations of vulnerability, concretely, due to health problems, the suffering of situations of violence or even the experience of closure. In this paper it is argued that this blind spot in anthropological analysis can be relatively surpassed through an auto-ethnographic approach. Describing his personal experience in a case of thyroid function failure, the author provides indicators that may help to analyze in depth the experiences of people living in situations of vulnerability.

Keywords: Autoethnography; Help-seeking behaviors; Vulnerability; Discursivity.
