Para tanto, realizou-se uma pesquisa qualitativa, com abordagem etnográfica e roteiro de entrevistas semi-estruturadas, com mulheres em idade reprodutiva, moradoras do Jardim Keralux, localizado na Zona Leste do município de São Paulo, Brasil. O Papanicolaou faz parte do processo de medicalização do corpo da mulher e está prenhe de significados, que permitem às mulheres darem um sentido à prevenção do câncer do colo do útero. Busca-se contribuir para a compreensão da experiência do exame de Papanicolaou e dos aspectos socioculturais que operam na prevenção do câncer do colo do útero.</p><p><strong>Palavras-chave</strong>: Corpo feminino; Gênero; Papanicolaou; Significados.</p><p> </p><p>Body and meaning for a group of women who underwent pap test</p><p><strong>Abstract:</strong> The purpose of this article is to understand the meanings of the female body for a group of women who did the Pap test. Therefore, a qualitative research was carried out, with ethnographic approach and script of semi-structured interviews, with women of reproductive age, living in Jardim Keralux, located in the East Zone of the city of São Paulo, Brazi. The Papanicolaou is part of the process of medicalization of the woman’s body and is pregnant with meanings, which allow women to give meaning to the prevention of cervical cancer.
